The Salvation Army in Kalamazoo is one of The Salvation Army’s “Partnerships in Mission” Corps. As such, The Salvation Army in Kalamazoo has made a special effort to support the work of The Salvation Army in Malawi, Africa. In 2010, the first building project of the partnership was completed, with a new Salvation Army Corps Facility and Quarters being built in Nkhata Bay, Malawi.
The next project for the partnership is another building project in the Northern District of Malawi. The Salvation Army in Kalamazoo will be funding the building of a Divisional Headquarters Compound for the Northern District in Mzuzu, Malawi. The headquarters will be built on land donated to The Salvation Army in Malawi and will provide the region with much needed facilities to help spread the work of The Salvation Army in Malawi.
Effective March 1, 2011, The Salvation Army in Malawi officially became a territory of The Salvation Army. This speaks immensely of the work of The Salvation Army in Malawi and the importance of Kalamazoo’s partnership with our comrades in Malawi. Malawi has seen expotential growth in the number of soldiers and friends of The Salvation Army in the past few years and will continue to grow in the years to come.
